Joel – 100th Blog

Posted on June 28, 2012

[Editor’s Note: This week, Living the Dream is publishing its 100th post.]

Well, between Robert and I we have now hit 100 total blog posts since this experiment began. So it’s time for some “thank yous.”

First, Nancy, whose wonderful work on the web site and web pages is only surpassed by her support of this whole music endeavor. And whose encouragement of my trying to make a go of this music business is surpassed only by my desire not to work as a Wal-Mart Greeter or some other “retirement” job.

Second, my bandmate and musical partner Amy who like Nancy provides me the kick in the pants to get it done (and yes, I am lazy enough that I need two people who want me to succeed kicking me in the butt to make things happen).

Third, although first chronologically, thanks to Robert who somehow managed to be the catalyst to get the ball rolling on this. We make a far better team than we ever expected we would.

Fourth, the rest of the “Timeless Feel” family: Cathy, who has been a bandmate most of the past 22 years but never expected to be in a jazz standards duo. And Steven, whose arm problems mean he will have to reluctantly pass the sticks to someone else as early as next month. We’ve loved having a drummer who is everything they say about drummers and who will still be heard on Future Retros recordings.

Special thanks to the people reading this; I hope this blueprint for making music a career helps some of you get started and avoid some of the pitfalls.

Finally, thanks to everyone who has hired us, from the Mel to the Moose, the Artsgarden to the Legion, private parties to vendors, and retailers to Farmer’s Markets.

And to our many friends and supporters, you make what we’re doing worth the hard times of getting up before 6 a.m. after staying up past midnight (or even 3 a.m.). It’s a tough life, but that’s why every musician’s motto is “What? And give up show biz???” Thank you to all.
